The AED Foundation of Ontario’s mission is to increase the use of Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) through promotion, advocacy, and education.
The AED Foundation of Ontario’s vision is to dramatically improve the accessibility through a central registry and 911 integration, promote use through marketing and media, advocate through partnerships and research, and educate with simple and effective programs.
The AED Foundation of Ontario is a non-profit agency dedicated to improving sudden cardiac arrest survival in the community.
The AED Foundation of Ontario is committed to increasing awareness of defibrillators in the community. A powerful tool for this purpose is personal stories. Through increased awareness, the AED Foundation aims to increase the use of an AED during a cardiac arrest. Partnerships in the community are integral to the AED Foundation's vision. Aligning and connecting local groups and bridging between government and private businesses are significant elements to our success. There are many organizations with AED’s as part of their overall programs in training and sales. Several of these large institutions have been including AED’s as part of their programs for over 20 years. Working together with these stakeholders will build relationships that will strengthen the AED foundations ability to grow.
Change how Automatic External Defibrillators are seen in the community. Remove the fear associated with using one in an emergency. You can not do harm, and you’re not liable when using an AED.
Change where AEDs are located. Place AED’s outside in public areas, at sports fields, and mass events. Expand AED availability to the general public for home use.
Change how the information from AEDs is used, collected, and shared, utilizing a central registry and working with research partners to demonstrate a significant improvement in out of hospital cardiac arrest survival.
Change the perception of Automatic External Defibrillators as medical devices only for trained professionals. Anyone can use an AED, and combined with CPR it is proven to increase sudden cardiac arrest survival.
Change how Emergency Medical Dispatch accesses AED locations and information. Connect all provincial Central Ambulance Communications Centre systems to standardize how the central registry shares information; to provide premise notes and coordinates of AEDs in their service area. The first responder to the patient is the EMD. They need to know where the AED is located to direct the bystander to find and use the automatic external defibrillator.
